Summertime has pretty much arrived, and here on the North Coast that means festival and events season is upon us. Coming up on June 14 is one of Humboldt’s most well-known events – the Arcata Bay Oyster Festival , which has been drawing huge crowds to the Arcata Plaza for more than 30 years, giving locals and tourists alike an opportunity to sample our area’s famous oysters, other local food, drinks and live local music.
This week we met with Gloria Baker, operations and events manager for the Arcata Chamber of Commerce, which organizes Oyster Fest, to learn more about the work that goes into planning the event and what we can expect from this year’s festivities.
