After decades of planning and more than a year of construction, the segment of the Humboldt Bay Trail connecting Eureka and Arcata is finally about to open, providing the community with the first bike and pedestrian trail between the two towns.
To celebrate this milestone, the various involved agencies are throwing a grand opening celebration on June 28, with events along the trail, followed by a party at Eureka’s Adorni Center.
This week we talked with Colin Fiske, executive director of the Coalition for Responsible Transportation Priorities to discuss a bit of the history of getting the trail built, why the trail is important to our community and what we can look forward to at the upcoming celebration.
The grand opening of the Humboldt Bay Trail is on Saturday Jun 28, with the party at the Adorni Center from 3 to 6 p.m. You can find more information at transportationpriorities.org/trailparty
