In October, the Ferndale Museum is holding Candlelight & Ghost Stories, a family-friendly tour through the museum with each spooky stop featuring a ghostly visit from a spirit of Ferndale's past. There are no "jump-scares" in the tour. Come join us for some spooky fun!
On October 17th, the Eureka Theater and Food for Thought are teaming up for a fundraiser featuring a double feature of locally produced short films by the filmmakers that produced “Great White Encounter: The Scott Stephens Story” and “High Water Mark: Stories from the ‘64 Flood.” This will be the public premiere of both short films and occurs during National Wildlife Refuge Week.
Doors will open at 7 PM with the premieres beginning at 7:30 PM. The filmmakers, subjects of the documentaries, as well as, representatives from the Humboldt Bay National Wildlife Refuge will be on hand to chat with the public. Photographs by David Thomson will also be displayed in the theater lobby and a slide show of his work will be shown during the event.

Redwood Region Audubon Society will be offering a free public field trip at the Arcata Marsh and Wildlife Sanctuary.
Bring your binoculars and enjoy the incredible views of Humboldt Bay, easy-to-walk trails, and a great diversity of birdlife!
Join the merry band of ivy bashers at the Fireman’s Pavilion in Rohner Park on the third Saturday of Every Month at 9 a.m. Bring gloves if you have them or you can borrow a pair. Who knows, maybe you will meet a Gnome or two. Sponsored by the North Coast Chapter of the California Native Plant Society and the Fortuna Parks & Recreation Department. Our commercial fishermen will be taking over Madaket Plaza at the foot of C street, Old Town Eureka on scheduled Saturdays from 9am- 1pm June - November,
Come down, meet your fishermen, and learn about our fishing industry. Captains will be selling their fresh catch open air style. Buy a whole fish and have it filleted on site at our custom fillet station. Making fish stock or need fish waste for your garden?? Let our Market staff know and we will have it wrapped up for you at pick-up. Buckets and Ice chests are encouraged.

On Saturday, October 18, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., the California Native Plant Society is hosting a get-together for families at Sequoia Park. Meet at the fountain near T Street and Glatt in Eureka. Joann Kerns will present a half hour of basic botany. Potted plants will be available to take home to grow. For those who linger, a plant walk is possible. Learn a few native and non-native plants in our natural community.
Friends of the Arcata Marsh (FOAM) is sponsoring a free tour of the Arcata Marsh & Wildlife Sanctuary each Saturday. Meet leaders at 2 p.m. outside the Interpretive Center on South G Street for a 90-minute, rain-or-shine walk.
A dinner and dance fundraiser for companion animal foundations spay and neuter assistance programs. Live music by Claire bent and Citizen Funk with a costume contest, howling contesting and a delicious vegitarian meal.
