Join Friends of the Dunes for Nature Story Time at the Humboldt Coastal Nature Center. Nature Story Time is geared for ages 3 to 6, and is held every Thursdays from 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM starting October 2nd and ending on December 11th. Each week there is a short story, movement activity and art project for children and their caregivers to enjoy. Upcoming topics include owls, pollinators, and dune plants. Nature Story Time on October 9th and November 20th will be bilingual (Spanish). Taste of the Holidays – Arcata’s Culinary Celebration!

Enjoy a one-stop culinary tour of seasonal dishes, artisan treats, and handcrafted drinks from the region’s best chefs, restaurants, and makers. Sip local beers, ciders, and wines while connecting with fellow food lovers in a festive atmosphere.

Join us for an evening of ‘Radical Tenderness’! We will be screening the documentary film directed by Ryan White, following poet/activist Andrea Gibson and Megan Falley as they navigate an examination of love and mortality after Gibson is diagnosed with terminal ovarian cancer.
Following the film, there will be a brief intermission and then a hosted open mic and poetry session dedicated to the work and radical tenderness of Andrea Gibson.
Andrea Faye Gibson (August 13, 1975 – July 14, 2025) was an American poet and activist. Their[a] poetry focused on gender norms, politics, social justice, LGBTQ topics, life, and mortality. Gibson was appointed as the Poet Laureate of Colorado in 2023.

We’re thrilled to host Nate Libal, CDFW Wolf Specialist, for a fascinating talk on gray wolf ecology and management in California. With 10 years of wolf management experience in Oregon and Wisconsin before joining CDFW, Nate brings serious field expertise. He'll discuss the recent history of wolf populations in California, current pack numbers and distribution, ongoing research, and the complex relationship between wolves and livestock.🐂

"Strange Meeting" returns to The Arcata Playhouse with a unique brand of Jazz that fuses improvisational freedom and instrumental virtuosity with a blend of electronic effects and organic textures that will make you rethink the nature of music and our relation to it.
