The Arcata Plaza Farmers’ Market is open every Saturday, year round, offering the freshest produce, meat, fish, cheese, eggs, bread, flowers, and more! Enjoy music and hot food vendors at this fun, family friendly event. No pets are allowed, but trained, ADA certified, service animals are welcome. Coming up Friday and Saturday, October 24 and 25, is the Friends of the Redwood Libraries Autumn Book Sale, to be held from 10:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. both days at the Eureka Library, 1313 Third St. This is the final scheduled sale of the year, so take the opportunity not only to stock up on reading for the coming winter months but also to pick to up some special gems for book loving friends and family. Friday’s sale is for members only, with memberships available at the door. Saturday’s sale is open to everyone.
Look for books in most subjects and genres, fiction and non-fiction, both hardback and paperback, from cookbooks to children's books to magazines, as well as a good selection of DVDs, CDs, and audiobooks. Credit cards welcomed. Small bills appreciated for cash sales.
As always, proceeds from the sale will benefit the entire Humboldt County Library system.
In celebration of Halloween, McKinleyville Shopping Center will be holding its 41st Annual Halloween Costume Parade on Saturday, October 25th at 11 a.m.
Children are invited to visit the McKinleyville Shopping Center for a safe and fun trick-or-treating experience. This free community event is open to all children, and there will be lots of free candy and Halloween treats given out by the merchants. Children should meet by the signs in the parking lot at the Shopping Center before 11 a.m. to join in the fun. We start the parade promptly at 11 a.m. for all participants.
Join Friends of the Dunes for a fun-filled, sugar free, Halloween dune adventure during our Spooky Dunes Tour on Saturday, October 25, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The quest will begin at the Humboldt Coastal Nature Center, located at 220 Stamps Lane, Manila. Costumes are highly encouraged, making the adventure even more festive! Feel free to drop in anytime between 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.This event is free, bilingual (Spanish), and designed for families with young children ages 3-10.
Explore the dunes and encounter a variety of whimsical creatures, from the Beach Grass Troll to the Forgetful Flower Fairy. Follow the map to discover the amazing biodiversity and ecology of the dunes, and complete your quest to uncover a treasure to take home! Please note that the event will be outdoors, so dress appropriately for the weather, bring a water bottle, and be ready for a short hike in soft sand.

Look closer and make connections on Saturday, October 25, 12-4 p.m. This event will focus on taking a closer look at the cool and the creepy parts of the natural world. Enjoy many interactive stations and activities in different disciplines of science.For a closer look at zoology we will focus on a hands-on experience with live animals such as reptiles,amphibians and stick bugs! Learn about the animals and their habitats and behavior.Touch snake skins and claws. Take a closer look through the microscope and quiz yourself on what you see. Learn about spooky creatures of the deep. See glow in the dark minerals. Friends of the Arcata Marsh (FOAM) is sponsoring a free tour of the Arcata Marsh & Wildlife Sanctuary each Saturday. Meet leaders at 2 p.m. outside the Interpretive Center on South G Street for a 90-minute, rain-or-shine walk.
Now in its 12th year, our Oktoberfest fundraising event is a festive German dining experience, featuring a seasonal menu showcasing Sauerbraten beef roasts (marinated for a full week in a traditional wine-vinegar-spice brine), and a selection of freshly-baked German breads, prepared especially for the dinner by Arcata’s Beck’s Bakery, and crafted from all-organic, Humboldt County-grown and locally-ground grains. Meals are prepared with authentic German recipes, made with love by members of our congregation, and served family-style at the table.
All proceeds from this event will be donated to local organizations that serve the un-housed and food-insecure in our community:

Join us for a walking tour of Ferndale's Victorian Village and Historic Cemetery. A local guide will lead these tours offering you a unique journey into the past.
During each October weekend, five 1-hour walking tours are offered by the Ferndale Cemetery Association. Each tour begins at Ferndale's Visitor Center (580 Main St., Ferndale, CA 95536) and ends with complimentary appetizers at a local restaurant.
