The Friends of the Arcata Library are holding a Fall Fundraiser to support the librarian's wish list. We will be collecting donations through September at the library. All donations will go toward purchasing books at a local bookstore. Come in to the Arcata Library, suggest a title, and and donate today!

The Northern California Community Blood Bank is Teaming Up with the Trinidad Civic Club and Gail Saunders for a Blood Drive.

The Trinidad community is encouraged to participate by donating on the Bloodmobile at Murphy’s Market, 1 Main St, Trinidad, on Wednesday September 10th from 1pm to 7pm. Your donations will make a difference in our local community and help support those in need of life-saving blood.

Gail will have homemade warm molasses cookies to share, a recipe her Trinidad grandmother, Nana Saunders' was famous for around town. All donors will receive a voucher for a slice of pizza from Headies Pizza and Pour. There will also be a friendly “Tortoise and Hare” competition for the fastest and the slowest donors of the day with gift baskets for the winners.

➤ The music of Humboldt County's own Dogbone is a category-defying amalgam of influences, improvisation and originality — Dogbone calls it "Feral Jazz." The band is led by local artist/sculptor John King.

Organic Seed Alliance (OSA) invites farmers, seed growers, and community members to the 2025 California Field Day at the CR Shively Farm, 409 Shively Flat Road, Shively. The event runs from 5:00–7:00 pm and is free to attend with registration.

The evening begins with a free dinner featuring meat or veggie burgers, sides, and a tomato tasting from 5:00–5:45 pm. At 5:45, participants will join a farm tour and discussion led by Jared Zystro, OSA’s Research and Education Director, covering organic vegetable seed production, tomato breeding, and pathogen management. Silas Sarvinski, College of the Redwoods Farm Manager, will demonstrate farm equipment and discuss organic practices.

This annual event provides a unique opportunity to see ongoing organic seed research in action, connect with fellow growers, and learn practical farming and seed production techniques.
