North Coast Conversations is a weekly segment where we meet with local community members developing ways to improve the quality of life on the north coast.

This week, NCC meets with Chris German, manager of Hambro Recycling’s CRV Buyback Center in Arcata. Before opening its doors in April 2022, Humboldt County had been without a buyback center for nearly two years, costing the community money and sending countless valuable reclaimable materials to landfills. Since opening in Arcata, the buyback center has processed literal tons of glass, aluminum, and plastic, while putting money back in community members' wallets.

NCC meets with Matthew Marshall of the Redwood Coast Energy Authority. Earlier this year, the RCEA unveiled California’s first multi-customer solar microgrid at the Arcata Airport.

This week, we are meeting with Darren Mierau, North Coast Regional Director of California Trout. California trout is a conservation group that has helped restore freshwater ecosystems through action and legislation in California for over 50 years.

Established over 60 years ago, The Clarke Historical Museum in Old Town Eureka displays the rich history of Humboldt County, with exhibits featuring artifacts from Native American cultures, early settlers, local industries, personal collections from community members, and much more.
