CLASS SERIES ABOUT MENTAL ILLNESS OFFERED FOR FAMILIES
Sign up now for NAMI Humboldt’s (National Alliance on Mental Illness) free, 8 session course in Eureka for family members and others who have loved ones living with a mental illness. The weekly class, which has been offered locally for over 20 years and has served hundreds of people, teaches family members how to understand mental illness and how to support their loved ones while maintaining their own well-being. This evidence based program is called Family to Family and is offered nationally by trained volunteers who themselves have loved ones experiencing mental health challenges. The series offers: information, self-care, communication skills and emotional support.
There is no cost for the classes or materials, though a commitment to the complete class series (8) is appreciated. Teachers are specially trained volunteers who also have loved ones living with serious mental health issues.

A Reason to Listen (Formerly the Humboldt Poetry Slam) finally returns!! A Reason to Listen Poetry Show had taken a break after the pandemic, but was an incredibly active poetry show on the North Coast for over 12 years. The event is the 1st Thursday of the month from 7-9pm at the Sanctuary in Arcata. There will be Live Music by DJ Goldylocks and Live Art by Dre Meza. The open mic is a lottery!

The California Native Plant Society will be hosting its 43rd annual Wildflower Show on May 2nd through May 4th at the Jefferson Community Center (1000 B Street, Eureka). Friday evening is Art Night. Keynote lectures will be given on Saturday and Sunday. Come see hundreds of species of cut flowers and listen to pop-up talks every half hour. This year’s theme is the family of rhododendrons, manzanitas, and madrone. For details see northcoastcnps.org.
The Garberville Certified Farmers' Market offers the freshest fruits and vegetables, meat, fish, cheese, eggs, bread, flowers, crafts and more! Enjoy music and hot food vendors at this fun, family friendly event. No pets are allowed, but trained, ADA certified, service animals are welcome. Contribute as you are able to the creation of habitat for the local bees, birds, butterflies and other little creatures. Take home some cuttings/seeds.Bring a bucket and garden tool, or just your enthusiasm!

Union Street Charter is inviting families with students that will be entering kindergarten in the future to attend their open house on May 2nd from 5:30-7:30. At open house, teachers showcase student work from the school year including language arts, math, art, and science.
