The Natural History Museum Cal Poly presents a talk on Favorite fungi: Meet the Parasites and Slimes, with Professor of Botany and Environmental Science, Maria Morrow. 1242 G St., Arcata, Friday, Nov. 7 from 6:30- 8 p.m. A wonderful exploration of the strange lives of mushrooms that rot, ooze, explode and even puppet insects. We will explore parasite and slime makers you might spot in our local forests. From mycilia free loaders to arthropod body snatchers! Whether you are new to mushrooming or a seasoned spore nerd, you'll leave with new ID tips, cool eulogy facts, and probably a few delightful shudders! Look Closer! Redwood Region Audubon Society will be offering a free public field trip at the Arcata Marsh and Wildlife Sanctuary.
Bring your binoculars and enjoy the incredible views of Humboldt Bay, easy-to-walk trails, and a great diversity of birdlife!
Come out to the Humboldt Dockside Market where you can buy fish directly from Humboldt based fishing vessels.
Our commercial fishermen will be taking over Madaket Plaza at the foot of C street, Old Town Eureka on scheduled Saturdays from 9am- 1pm June - November,
Come down, meet your fishermen, and learn about our fishing industry. Captains will be selling their fresh catch open air style. Buy a whole fish and have it filleted on site at our custom fillet station. Making fish stock or need fish waste for your garden?? Let our Market staff know and we will have it wrapped up for you at pick-up. Buckets and Ice chests are encouraged.

The Arcata Plaza Farmers’ Market is open every Saturday, year round, offering the freshest produce, meat, fish, cheese, eggs, bread, flowers, and more! Friends of the Arcata Marsh (FOAM) is sponsoring a free tour of the Arcata Marsh & Wildlife Sanctuary each Saturday. Meet leaders at 2 p.m. outside the Interpretive Center on South G Street for a 90-minute, rain-or-shine walk.
Join us for wine tasting, hors d’oeuvres, and a live and silent auction with auctioneer Tom Allman. All proceeds will support the construction of a new community hospital and clinic to bring modern healthcare to Southern Humboldt!

Humboldt Repair Café is a free program where community members can bring in small items and receive expert assistance with repair.
A Repair Café is a community-driven event where people can bring their broken items to be repaired by volunteer experts. These volunteers, ranging from electricians and seamstresses to bike mechanics and woodworkers, are passionate about fixing things and helping others. The Repair Café not only encourages sustainability by preventing waste but also fosters a sense of community, learning and creativity.
Event Highlights:
Free Repairs: Bring broken items and get them fixed for free by skilled volunteers.Expert Advice: Volunteers will provide tips on how to fix items at home and extend the life of these belongings.All Ages Welcome: The Repair Café is family-friendly and encourages everyone to get involved.Community Building: Meet neighbors, share knowledge and collaborate on keeping items out of landfills.How It Works:
Bring Broken Items: Gather items to get repaired and bring them to the event.Get Matched with a Volunteer: A team of experts will match participants with the right volunteer based on the items brought.Learn and Fix Together: Watch as the repair happens, learn valuable skills and ask questions during the process.The first Humboldt Repair Café will take place on Sunday, April 6 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the Arcata Community, 321 Dr. MLK Jr. Parkway. This event is free and attendees should bring broken household items, clothing, small appliances, electronics and similar items, but motor vehicles, large household appliances and anything that cannot be individually carried through a doorway should be left at home.
